What is a Northern Belle?
A Northern Belle is powerful woman with a sense of youthful exuberance, no matter what her age. She’s worldly and confident with a sense of self so strong it could never be altered. She understands the power of having class, lineage and most importantly never forgetting where she came from. She has a deep adoration for fashion and isn’t afraid to take risks in life and with her wardrobe…the more shocking the better. She dresses for herself and herself alone. Her aura is bright and maybe even a little…pink. With her hats inspired by Hollywood’s classic starlets, a Northern Belle commands the attention of every eye when she walks into a room. Her red carpet is the world and it’s showtime.
About Northern Belle Hat Co.’s Founder/Designer
Our story begins in Charleston, South Carolina in 2018. On vacation all the way from the Garden State, Kelly packed in her suitcase her first hand decorated hat for a polo match she had planned to attend. At the match, Kelly noticed everyone’s hats seemed to elevate not only their outfits but also how they carried themselves entirely. It was in this moment Kelly fell in love.
After attending a handful of polo matches and events, Kelly’s hand decorated hats were beginning to get noticed. She was beginning to win “Best Dressed” and “Best Hat” awards consistently. Feeling more glamorous than ever, she knew everyone deserved to feel this way and so, on a late night flight back to New Jersey, Northern Belle Hat Co. was born.
Kelly took her new found love for being a little ostentatious back home and made it her own. Taking inspiration from her travels as well as from Hollywood’s Golden Age, she began to create hats that embodied the very essence of history’s most influential fashion icons.
Kelly attended LIM College in New York, New York. Throughout her studies she completed internships with Marc Jacobs and Christian Louboutin in their Wholesale and Retail Operations departments. Kelly graduated from LIM in 2015 with a BBA in Fashion Merchandising. She lives in Northern New Jersey with her fiancé Felix.
